Hatchet 3 (2013) - awful? (Decker Shado)

Hatchet 3 was the film that was a horror in the Hatchet trilogy. It is a story about Victor Crowley, his murderous rampage through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn portrays Deputy Winslow, Rileah vanderbilt portrays Misty.

The film's main strength is the use of real-world special effects. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of makeup effects that are practical as well as sets. This is different from the majority of horror films nowadays that heavily rely on CG effects. It also features some really horrifying moments.

Kane Hodder is a standout among the cast, and he's an intimidating villain. It feels like an '80s slasher movie, with the dialogue being a bit too tongue-in-cheek and campy. There are also certain moments of genuine comedy throughout, which provide a comical contrast to the heart-wrenching action.

However because of the small budget (reportedly only $1 million) many locations used are re-used from earlier films in the series. The identical boat house was featured twice in the film and a lot of the film appears to be a re-use from previous films in the franchise. The Hatchet and Hatchet 2 films may feel like the film is familiar.

Overall, Hatchet 3 was (blog) very enjoyable. I found it to be very like other films in the series. However, Hatchet 3 provided lots of thrilling thrills and hilarious performances by its cast.
